GEN-Z Yellow – How to wear the most popular colour trend of the season

Not long ago, neutrals and denims made up most of our wardrobes and wearing bright colours like yellow from head to toe was not perceived to be fashionable. But today in the demanding  age of social media, where trends change with the blink of an eye and what we wear is influenced by our favourite ‘It Girls’, celebrities and social media influencers, we are more open to experimentation. No wonder this season’s trend report is beaming with a multitude of fresh colours and trends, but the colour that seems to be winning over every fashionista this season is the happiest and optimistic YELLOW.

The trend was first observed when Beyonce wore a ruffled marigold Roberto Cavalli dress in one of “Lemonade’s” music videos. Then all our favourite fashionistas- Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Kendall Jenner, Kareena Kapoor, were seen sporting the trend in boldest ways possible and suddenly it became the most sought after colour for spring-summer 2018.

Writer Haley Nahman of the Manrepeller blog termed this trend as GEN-Z Yellow as the colour yellow represents the optimism and energy of the new generation of teens that holds our future. According to Forbes, GEN-Z is the group of people born between mid 90’s to early 2000’s. Since this is the young generation that has all the energy to engage in purposeful ways and contribute to a brighter future, the vibrant and cheerful yellow is the best colour to represent this generation.

This trend of representing a generation with a colour started last year with ‘Millenial Pink’ when a new wave of feminism had hit the fashion world. This colour suddenly bombarded our instagram feeds with every social media influencer adorning this colour and even the new cafes in London were painted pink owing to this trend. GEN-Z Yellow is believed to be this season’s answer to Millenial Pink and it is already infiltrating our instagram feeds. It includes all the shades and hues of the colour yellow from lemon to ochre to canary. This is the colour that you are going to find everywhere this season- from your favourite high street brands to designers and online stores. Since yellow can be a tricky colour to carry, I have created a lookbook of this trend for you guys.

  1. For the first look, I wore this yellow tiered maxi dress in solid yellow colour from Koovs. The dress has a Bohemian feel to it and I love the lace up detailing on the neckline. I paired it with tan heels from Zara and completed the look with golden hoop earrings.

2. For the second look, I kept my outfit casual with a printed white t-shirt and bright yellow cropped pants from Zara. I paired this outfit with black and yellow heels and a neck tie scarf. I completed this look with a cane bag from Zara which is really trending right now. I also wore yellow tinted cat-eye sunglasses from shein store. Yellow accessories like sunglasses, belts and shoes are an option for those who aren’t very confident in wearing this colour.

3. For the third look, I wore this pretty lemon yellow floral print calf length dress from H&M and paired it with a matching yellow belt from Vero Moda. I colour blocked the look with bright blue heels from LULU and SKY, which match the blue flowers on my dress. I completed the look with yellow hoop earrings from H&M.

4. For the fourth look, I wore a dark yellow bell sleeved shrug from stalkbuylove over the fearless feminist tee from my collection and a pair of blue denims. I completed this look with white sneakers, Rayban sunglasses and golden earrings.

5. For the fifth look, I wore a co-ord set from INCENSE, which is an apparel and accessory store in local markets of Delhi. I feel this is a really good find as the whole set is for just Rs. 1799. I paired this outfit with black block heels and black handbag from Dior.

               6. For the last look I kept things simple with a yellow gingham printed top from AND and  a pair of blue denims. I completed the look with tan heels and yellow hoop earrings.

I hope you guys liked this lookbook. Let me know which was your favourite look out of these. Until next time , take care and glitter in style.
